Brand Profile: Kangol

If you want to get him a hat for Christmas, you can't go far wrong with a Kangol.

The Kangol story starts after the end of the First World War. Jacques Spreiregen started to import Basque Berets from France. Kangol still has abort in its line-up to this day. It wasn't until 1938 ha Jacques created the Kangol name to distinguish his brand. They say he combined the K from Knitting, the ANG from Angora and the OL from wool. The Cumbria-based company went on to supply berets to the British Army and outfitted the British Olympic team for the 1948 opening ceremonies.

Other key dates are the introduction of the Carricap and Seamless Cap in 1954, in 1964 obtaining sole rights to produce any headwear which featured the image, endorsement or name of The Beatles and in 1981 creating the hats worn by British Airways cabin crew.

Today Kangol produces a wide range of headwear, that crosses generations and cultures. It's not just Hip Hop and it's not just heritage. Kangol is not just a fashion brand. Kangol is a cultural fashion fusion, taking the very best of British heritage and retro Hip Hop and and mixing it with future fashion. Kangol seeks to satisfy a new generation of consumers without alienating the people who put Kangol where it is today. This is demonstrated in the mutual respect that is exchanged between Kangol and the talented individuals the brand collaborates with.
